Welcome!

Peninsula Habitat is a local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International that builds affordable homes for very low-income families - offering them a hand up, not a handout.

Home ownership is virtually unattainable for the majority of people living on the Peninsula. Only 18 percent of households can afford to buy an entry-level home in San Mateo County, well below the overall U.S. affordability score of 62 percent. In fact, the median price of a first-time home in the county is $824,500, requiring a minimum qualifying income of $166,090.* In comparison, a very low-income family served by Peninsula Habitat has an income of $56,550 for a family of four.

Valley Presbyterian Church Bicycle Riders Participate in Race Across America

Cycling enthusiasts have dubbed Race Across America "the world's toughest bike race." That moniker doesn't scare the four-person team of everyday folks from Valley Presbyterian Church, now called 'Team H4' or 'Holy Rollers Hammering for Habitat Homes.' In fact, Team H4 hopes the drama generated by the coast-to-coast race on June 11-20 will draw attention to a cause they believe in and raise $50,000 for Peninsula Habitat for Humanity. Construction of Peninsula Habitat's newest affordable housing project for very low-income families is now underway in Redwood City, following final building approvals from the city. The project is made possible in part through a substantial land donation from the city, as well as a $195,000 grant from the State of California as the result of Proposition 46 funding for low-income housing. Kaiser Permanente Honors Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday with Special Work Day at Peninsula Habitat Site

Honoring the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in January, Kaiser Permanente mobilized employees from all over the Bay Area to help build four Peninsula Habitat homes in South San Francisco. Peninsula Habitat construction sites are normally closed on Mondays and holidays, but our volunteer department is always eager to help groups plan special events or team-building days.
