Meet Our 2007-2008 AmeriCorps Team
They come from all over the United States. They come from all age levels and backgrounds. Some have just graduated from high school. Others have graduated from college, but they all have one thing in common - they're part of a national movement, a group of 70,000 individuals donating one year of their lives to their communities and country.
As part of the AmeriCorps program, they serve at nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based and community organizations across the country. Since 1999, Peninsula Habitat for Humanity has welcomed up to eight AmeriCorps members every year who have served as team leaders, trainers, supervisors and community ambassadors. This year is no different.
In August, we welcomed eight AmeriCorps members to our team - Bradley Allen, Erin Beeson, Danny Carratala, Chadrick Eakin, Derek Johnson, Justine Marr, Natalie Petrini, Brandy Walker,
"The AmeriCorps are an integral part of our team, both on the construction site and in our office, said Don Varney, Peninsula Habitat for Humanity's Manager of Volunteer Services and Faith/Community Outreach. "We use a lot of community volunteers - between 2,500 and 4,000 per year depending on how many houses we're building - and we wouldn't be able to do that without the AmeriCorps. Through their efforts and service, we can work with more volunteers safely and efficiently, and produce a greater number of homes for low-income families on the Peninsula."
Over the next year, the AmeriCorps will each provide 1,700 hours of direct service to our families and volunteers, both on the construction site and in our office.
The AmeriCorps help Peninsula Habitat garner community interest and participation at all levels. "They act as our ambassadors to the community and are really doing some fantastic work," said Varney. "We're thankful that these eight AmeriCorps members decided to be part of our program, and we hope they have a great year with us."
