About AmeriCorps

Each year, AmeriCorps provides more than 70,000 trained and dedicated individuals who serve at nonprofits, public agencies, and faith-based and community organizations across the country. AmeriCorps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service, an independent federal agency created to connect Americans of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to give back to their communities and their nation.

Through their service, AmeriCorps members address critical needs in local communities such as building affordable housing, tutoring and mentoring youth, fighting illiteracy, improving health services, teaching computer skills, cleaning parks and streams, and helping communities respond to disasters.

Since its inception in 1994, more than 400,000 men and women have served in AmeriCorps, providing needed assistance to millions of Americans across the nation. Together with the USA Freedom Corps, the Corporation is working to build a culture of citizenship, service, and responsibility in America.

AmeriCorps & Peninsula Habitat for Humanity

In 1994, Habitat for Humanity International and the AmeriCorps joined together to mobilize volunteers in the fight against poverty housing. As part of this effort, AmeriCorps members serve with Habitat for Humanity affiliates throughout the country.

Peninsula Habitat for Humanity has worked with AmeriCorps members since 1999 to build homes and relationships with our families and volunteers.

Each year, Peninsula Habitat for Humanity welcomes six to eight AmeriCorps members who serve as team leaders, trainers, supervisors and community ambassadors. The AmeriCorps members are an integral part of our team, both on the construction site and in the office. Through their efforts and service, Habitat can work with more volunteers safely and efficiently, and produce a greater number of homes for low-income families.
