Homeowner Eligibility Requirements

Although eligibility requirements can vary from city to city below are some basic eligibility requirements:
  • Applicants must have a gross annual household income based on HUD guidelines.

    • $40,000 to $50,900 for a family of 3
    • $40,000 to $56,550 for a family of 4
    • $40,000 to $61,050 for a family of 5
    • $40,000 to $65,600 for a family of 6
    • $40,000 to $70,100 for a family of 7

  • Applicants must have rented for the past 6-12 months depending on the city where Habitat houses are available.

  • At least one adult applicant in your family must have legal permanent residency or citizenship in the United States at the time of the application.

  • Applicants must have steady income, good credit and a minimal level of debt.

  • Applicants and their family must be willing and able to perform 500 hours of "sweat equity."

  • Applicants must have not owned or co-owned a home in the last 3 years.
