Homeowner Selection Process

1) If you live in a city where we are currently or will be building, please review eligibility requirements to see if you pre-qualify.

2) When a home or homes are available in your city, potentially qualified applicants will be sent an invitation to attend an orientation. Applications will be distributed based on further screening processes at this meeting.

3) Completed applications will be reviewed and applicants will become Habitat homeowners once they complete the selection process and 500 hours of "sweat equity." If Habitat has more applicants than homes available, applicants are entered into a drawing for their homes.

4) The selection process, building of the home, and sweat equity can take up to 18 months.

If your family does not qualify for a Habitat home, or if your family does not reside in an area that we plan to build in, please contact The San Mateo Housing Authority at 650-802-3300, as they may be able to assist you further.
