First Horizon Home Loans
First Horizon Home Loans recently announced that it will complete its sponsorship of a Peninsula Habitat for Humanity home in 2006. Announced at the March 2006 Peninsula Real Estate Market Update, First Horizon's sponsorship is in response to the MAKEitREAL campaign, an effort by local real estate professionals to build 22 homes for low-income families on the Peninsula.
First Horizon Home Loans, part of First Horizon National Corporation, includes 13,000 employees in more than 40 states. Founded in 1864, the corporation has evolved into one of the nation's most respected bank holding companies, and was named one of the nation's 100 best corporate citizens by Business Ethics magazine.
"First Horizon wants to invest in its community to strengthen and support its residents," said First Horizon Home Loans District Manager Nikki James. "Peninsula Habitat for Humanity builds homes with working, low-income families that First Horizon is unable to help through conventional means. These are the same families that work in the service industries and allow us to do our jobs. Working families in our community need decent affordable housing without long commutes. When all residents can afford to live near their jobs, the community can then thrive!"
First Horizon made a five-year, $2 million commitment to Habitat for Humanity International and has already contributed $815,000 in pledges, plus volunteer support from branch offices across the nation.
In two years, First Horizon Home Loans has raised more than 88 percent of the cost ($150,000) to build a home from the ground up through corporate contributions and employee donations. First Horizon employees have volunteered to construct homes in Redwood City and Daly City, and their sponsorship will be recognized in one of the eight town homes being constructed in Redwood City in 2007.
"In 2004, Peninsula Real Estate professionals set out to build 22 affordable, ownership homes for families on the Peninsula," said Tom Marron, regional manager of First Horizon Home Loans. "Through our contributions as a real estate community, Peninsula Habitat for Humanity has received one third of the funding necessary, and has already completed four homes with another five under construction."
