Lockheed Engineering Team Helps
to Build Community

Lockheed Martin employs some of the best and brightest engineers in the world. They research, develop and test information technology and global services that address some of our nation's most critical needs. What you may not know is that their contribution does not end there. They also work tirelessly to enhance the quality of life in the communities where they live and work.

"Volunteerism is a long-standing tradition at Lockheed Martin," said Carol Ackerman, Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company Administrator of Communications. "Lockheed regularly encourages employee volunteerism by promoting local service opportunities and making it easy for employees to participate. We don't just want to work in communities; we want to be a part of them."

Over the past few years, Lockheed employees logged nearly 1.9 million volunteer hours in their communities. In 2005 alone, employees volunteered more than 720,000 hours.

One group who responded to Lockheed's volunteer call was a small group of engineers from the Sunnyvale campus. Fellow employees Jonathan Kimura and Alex Shieu first organized a Peninsula Habitat for Humanity build day in October 2005. Together, they coordinated volunteers and arranged carpools for the special event.
