Lockheed Engineering Team Helps
to Build Community
(continued)

"We wanted to give back to the community," Kimura said. "Peninsula Habitat offers a great opportunity to learn a myriad of construction skills and work in a team environment. They also offer weekday volunteer opportunities, which worked well because many of us get every other Friday as part of our work schedule."

Kimura and Shieu's team worked at Peninsula Habitat's De Long Street Construction site both in October 2005 and February 2006. "My first time on the site in October I used the jackhammer and a super vaccum to suck up dirt," Kimura said. "Then during the second build day in February, I worked on the roof laying tar shingles. It was exciting!"

The Lockheed team will participate in another build event this Friday, March 23rd. "Moving forward, I'm hoping to organize a monthly build event with Peninsula Habitat," Jonathan said. "My goal is get at least 10 volunteers to participate each time."

To date, Jonathan and Alex's team from Lockheed Martin has donated more than 464 hours of volunteer time. Lockheed Martin originally became involved with Peninsula Habitat in 1995. Since then, the corporation and its employees have donated more than $100,000 to provide families with the opportunity and empowerment they need to break the cycle of poverty through homeownership.
