Kids Can Help
Adam's Bar Mitzvah
At the age of 13, Jewish children become Bar or Bat Mitzvah, Son or Daughter of
the Commandments. This important milestone marks the beginning of moral and
religious responsibility, and is usually celebrated by the child leading the
community in prayer and study. Often, gifts are given to a community charity of the
child's choice. Adam chose to make centerpieces for his celebration luncheon out of
tools that could then be donated. Peninsula Habitat is fortunate to be the
recipient of new tools to enable community volunteers to build houses: hammers,
matte knives, measuring tapes, paint buckets, etc.
Letter from Adam's mother
I want to thank the Habitat staff for making Adam's donation so meaningful to him.
It is difficult to teach children the importance of sharing our good fortune with those
in need. The staff's warm reception and "fussing" over Adam really helped to cement in
his mind the good feeling that he got from donating the tools. He's enthused, and is
on the right path to a lifetime of giving back to his community.
Thanks again,
Amy
